Welcome to Moorland Management Best Practice (MMBP) Guidance.
Moorland Management Best Practice (MMBP) Guidance provides a comprehensive collection of practical advice for those involved in managing moorland environments. Originally established by Scotland’s Moorland Forum, MMBP has expanded in recent years to offer an updated and extensive range of guidance materials.
This website offers resources specifically designed for farmers, gamekeepers, and moorland management practitioners. All guidance is developed collaboratively by a diverse group of experts, organisations, and specialists, ensuring a well-rounded and authoritative approach to Best Practice.
The Moorland Management Best Practice Guidance Steering Group brings together organisations with deep knowledge and experience in moorland management. Working collectively, the group identifies priority topics, drafts and reviews guidance, and establishes agreed standards for practical management. This collaborative process ensures cross-sector consensus and a unified approach to effective moorland stewardship.
Over the years, the Steering Group has adapted to reflect the evolving challenges and opportunities in moorland management. Today, the group addresses a wide range of subjects, in a dynamic sector.
Chaired by an independent facilitator Patrick Laurie and supported by NatureScot, the group encourages contributions and suggestions for future guidance topics as well as feedback on existing documents.
The Moorland Management Best Practice Collection is continually expanding, with new guidance being developed on a broad spectrum of topics. Regular visits to the website are recommended to stay informed about the latest updates. An annual review and update of all guidance ensures that the information remains current and relevant.
